Miss Dior Cherie Eau De Parfum (2007 version)

I'm still wondering whether to purchase a bottle of Christian Dior's Miss Dior Cherie.

The Eau De Parfum (EDP) has been replaced by a new formulation in May 2011 (new edition created by Francois Demachy, who did quite a lot of the Dior scents, but interestingly did not do the popular J'Adore Eau de Parfum which I have).

I am undecided about the scent. It's classified as a Chypre Fruity, and Luca Turin's book Perfume The A-Z Guide describes it as a strawberry patchouli and rated it 3 stars out of 5. Can't say with certainty that I love it. But what if I wish to buy it next time? If I don't get it now, I will not be able to buy in future. Some of the department stores are still carrying the old stocks, but once it is sold out, it will no longer be manufatured and hence not available, since the new version will replace it. I am not keen to buy from discount stores, since many sell fakes or expired or diluted perfumes.

This is the bottle of the 2005 version of Miss Dior Cherie EDP. I really like the bottle and the fancy cursive silver words on top of the glass.

Unfortunately, the current design is not as nice, they now have a paper label stuck onto the glass. It seems that the scent is the same for both the 2005 and 2007 packaging, though some websites say that 2007 version was re-formulated from 2005 (both versions of the scent was created by Christine Nagel for Dior. Francois Demachy's version is the 2011 one).

I'm unhappy that they keep re-formulating their products, price goes up but quality seems to go down.

Here's a pic of the old and new versions. On the left, the 2007 packaging (again vastly different from the 2005 packaging). On the right, the latest incarnation of the scent - the 2011 version. You have to look very closely to spot the difference from the photos. The 2011 version's label is set inside the glass indent on the front of the bottle. Whereas the 2007 version's label is just pasted on.

Description taken from a website I like to visit. Fragrantica - Miss Dior Cherie EDP 2007: "Dior is introducing a new and charming girl, Miss Dior Cherie. Face of the perfume is Riley Keough, Elvis Presley's oldest granddaughter, and the bottle resembles the one of Miss Dior of 1947. This fragrance, although it features the same basic components like its famous predecessor, is not at all a remake of Miss Dior. Sweet and gourmand notes of pop corns in the heart, so unusual, make this perfume appealing to youngsters. Miss Dior Cherie is young and romantic, she possesses good taste and style, she looks smart, but youth is youth, and this young lady looks pretty with a pop corn bag in hands. The top notes are wild strawberry leaves and green tangerine. The heart features caramel pop corns surrounded by violets, wild strawberry, so strong and seductive and pink jasmine. The base is created of fresh patchouli leaves and crystalline musk.

Miss Dior Cherie was launched in 2005. The nose behind this fragrance is Christine Nagel."

Differences between the versions shown here, in Fragrantica news.
Dior has some really nice ads and visuals for Miss Dior Cherie. I love how the different flankers / versions of the perfume sit prettily on the luscious flowers. This pic is of the earlier 2007 EDP and other flankers/variations of Miss Dior Cherie - e.g. L'eau.
I have not smelled the 2005 version, so can only comment on the 2007 version. I presume they are the same.

Here's my take on the 2007 vs the 2011 version:-* I can detect the caramel popcorn notes and the sweetly plastic scent in the older version. A bit like plastic toys or play doh, can't describe but you'll know when you smell it.

* The strawberry patchouli note is gone in the 2011 edition! Friend HW (J) says it smells orangey when we tested it in Robinsons Raffles City. The new version smells more sour and the stale cigarette smoke note is more apparent, making it smell more similar to Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum. Ugggh... the tobacco note... eeks... who would want to pay so much to smell like a lounge hostess?

* The older version is longer lasting than the 2011 version, which fades very quickly. Boo, it is a diluted badly rehashed version of the earlier.

* I'm not sure if I love the perfume, but if I were to purchase it, I would take the earlier version!

Do not be fooled by shop assistants who tell you that the old (2007) and new (2011) perfumes are the exact same scent in a new packaging!!! They obviously are not well versed or trained on their products. Though I was pleasantly surprised that the male assistant at Takashimaya could even tell me that the older version smelled of caramel popcorn. The scents are very different, especially if you sample them side by side on the cardboard paper. The difference is augmented when you test them on your skin - spray the new and old on your left and right wrist, wait for the scent to 'develop'. And then smell them again. Also, spray the 2 versions on the card and test how it smells on paper.

I did a blind test... and my guy friend said the new 2011 version smells like perspiration. (o_O)" Uhhhh... how did they make a perfume that gives off a sweaty smell?! What if I wear it and people think that I have not bathed in days? He smelled the two versions of Miss Dior Cherie and Coco Mademoiselle on scent strips, and he later said he did not like any of them. *hmmmph* Maybe he just doesn't have a sophisticated nose for perfumes.

Well I'm definitely not going to consider the new version. Why do perfumers keep changing the perfume? How can they call the new formulation an Eau de Parfum and yet the staying power is more like Eau de Toilette (but at an exorbitant price)? The older version is $95 for 30ml and $115 for 50ml. The new version is $120 for 50ml (I did not enquire about the price of the new 30ml bottle, it is likely $99 or $100).

Maybe I'll wait for the next Metro 20% discount that is likely to be in June, and then think about buying the older version. And it would likely be a 30ml bottle. Though the 50ml one would be more worth it. Hmmm shall consider carefully.

I like this ad for the 2007 version of Miss Dior Cherie. I'm not impressed by the 2011 ads with Natalie Portman.

Complete List of Cath Kidston Uniqlo T Shirts

I found the entire range of designs for the t shirts in the Cath Kidston Charity Project & Uniqlo collaboration. This is from someone's Ebay listing.

Cousin Serene's design is #4. The white background brings out the red London bus and other details nicely.

I originally bought #7, and I really like the floral motif. But in the end, I exchanged it because when I tried it on at home, it was oversized, more suited to wearing with leggings. However, it still would look quite sloppy, so I decided against it.
This range comprises of the V-neck t shirts.

I prefer a round neck collar, so I didn't get any in this range.

Ahhhh... This range is nice, but I didn't see the cherry prints of #27 to #29 in the Uniqlo outlets.

The designs that eluded me are #35 and #36.

:'-(

I bought all of my t shirts from this range. I like the designs, and the sleeves are puff sleeves with binding.

I have #41, #42 in blue (not khaki) and #44.

The pics below are taken from the Uniqlo website.

Cath Kidston & Uniqlo

I recently went crazy over the Cath Kidston t shirts that were sold in a collaboration with Uniqlo. Or should I say, Uniqlo's collaboration with Cath Kidston. I found out about it a little too late...

By the time I was able to go to Uniqlo, most of the designs were either sold out or no longer in size S.

I would have loved to add this design with the small spray flowers to my collection, but it is already totally sold out. :( Seems that there was stock at the Uniqlo Vivocity opening on 6 May 2011, but I didn't go down. Now it is too late, none of the Uniqlo outlets have this design any more.

It seems that the more popular t shirts designs have already been sold out in UK, and no further shipment is likely from the Uniqlo in Japan (so our Uniqlo in Singapore gets the stock direct from Japan).

This pic with the pretty Cath Kidston paper bag is taken from beauty blogger Iris' website.
Since I can't get my hands on the t shirt, I can only vicariously post pictures of other people's acquisitions.

It's so annoying... if I could have bought this t shirt design, I would have been so happy! Arrrghhh... It would have completed my collection of the Cath Kidston t shirts. The online store for Cath Kidston in UK does not sell nice t shirts, and they are more pricey than the S$19.90 promotion for the Uniqlo t shirts (usual price $24.90). If only I knew about this earlier! And I didn't expect the items to sell out so fast. Looks like Uniqlo is super popular too.

Ah well, at least I managed to buy 3 designs for myself, and another one for dear cousin Serene.

I couldn't get a online pic of Serene's t shirt, so here is one in grey. Hers is in white background, and in my opinion, nicer than in grey. This is one of Cath Kidston's signature designs, very Brit, with the London Bus, clock tower and London Eye.

It's a cute n cool design, and more unique than the other floral t shirts.

Here are the 3 t shirts I managed to buy for myself. This one is in dusky blue, with small bunches of classic Cath Kidston flowers.

At first I thought it was sold out, as I only saw other pieces in greenish khaki, and there was only 1 size M in the Uniqlo Woodlands.

Good thing I spotted that they hid some stock in the higher shelves, and I asked the kind sales assistant to help me bring down the S size. So I managed to get a new piece!

The small florals are pretty, and go nicely with the background blue.

This one is in "natural", more like a greyish beige colour. The flowers are pretty and striking. I really like this design too.

All the designs I bought have the Cath Kidston Charity Project cloth label stiched onto the t shirt, at the bottom right corner.

The fabric is very soft. But after washing, it seems to be less soft.

Here are the photos I took of the t shirts. On the left, photo taken with flash. On the right, without flash.

Here's a closer pic of my 2 favourite t shirt designs.
Hmmm, the lighting conditions aren't very ideal. Took the pics in the evening. The blue t shirt with flowers look different in every pic. Sometimes a bit greenish, sometimes a bit greyish or too grey.

My friend HW (J) says that the design on the left, the grey one with the big abstract bouquet of flowers seem familiar. She's seen it around somewhere.I'm not sure if it's very 'signature' of Cath Kidston. But I do know that the other floral designs have been overcopied. There are a lot of fake Cath Kidston bags and pouches these days.

There is a matching bag for this print on the Cath Kidston UK online store.

Hmmm it would be tempting to get a matching bag...

...To console myself that I was not able to buy the spray flowers white t shirt. Another friend from church, S, said that when she went to Japan last week, there were only L sizes left for the Uniqlo t shirts in Tokyo!

Here's a pic of the bag I have in mind. It's called Bunch Flowers Day Bag.

It would be cute if used together with the Uniqlo t shirt :-P

But the colour and print is more suited to carrying with jeans and casual wear. So I may not get a lot of mileage from buying this bag.

Back to Blogger

Finally! It took ages for me to figure out which email account was associated with my blog. And the correct password. Now I'm back and able to post again.
